SSH and command line tools

SSH is a protocol used to enable secure communications between computer systems. You'll use an SSH client in the command line to connect to virtual machine instances in your project.

An OpenStack RC (also called an OpenRC file) file is a configuration file you can download from the cloud console. Use the source command with the OpenStack RC file to set environment variables and help with command line interactions.

Tip

When working with virtual machines, it's helpful to have some familiarity with system and server administration tasks such as installing and working with operating systems, packages, frameworks, shells, and terminal applications.
